There’s something about having a child that makes you step back and really take inventory of how responsible you are with your health. I've always been a healthy guy - I didn’t have a check up for 12 years - and all of sudden I find myself searching for a primary care doctor. Except nobody ever really teaches you how to do that.
So after waiting weeks to schedule my first doctor’s appointment in years, I show up at a health system. It’s straight up assembly-line medicine: Packed waiting room, nobody makes eye contact, the front desk just asks for your insurance card without even a hello. When I finally see the doctor, they ask “what’s wrong” like they’re ready to walk me out. All I wanted was to establish a relationship with a doctor.
People seem brainwashed about their health care. It’s like everybody is out in the ocean treading water, and I miraculously made it to shore when I found my direct primary care doctor. Everybody has been told their whole lives that they must rely on health insurance, and that’s the only way to get a doctor. There are more choices out there. Direct primary care changed the way I think about my health and the healthcare system. I’m happy I found my DPC doctor - somebody who gets me, takes care of me, is there for me, and I would even call a friend now.
Andy is a family man with 3 kids and realized there are more affordable choices for doctors outside of health insurance. After finding direct primary care, he's not going back.
